Club Jacket Orders
Order your SCNV club jacket now so that you have it at the start of the competition season. Skaters wear Club jackets at competitions to highlight Club membership and the skater (so other Club members see you and cheer you on). Showing Club colors is part of our community spirit. We order jackets in batches of a minimum of six so do not delay too long and miss the next order. Click here to see the jacket and here for the order form for the Chloe Noel Polar Fleece Fitted Jackets, club logo on the back, skater name embroidered on the front, $95 per jacket.
2013 S.T.A.R.S Training Event
S.T.A.R.S. (Standardized Testing of Athleticism to Recognize Skaters) www.starscombine.org is a fun, one day off-ice testing event designed to provide skaters and coaches with specific information about the athletic abilities specifically related to on-ice skills. The purpose of S.T.A.R.S. is to help you train your athleticism ahead of your skills curve and to help your body be as injury resistant as possible.
The S.T.A.R.S. combine consists of 15 tests in three areas: 1) Agility/Balance/Coordination; 2) Strength and Power; 3) Flexibility. The test allows athletes to compare their results with others of the same skating level, age, and gender across the country. Individual data is never shared. All S.T.A.R.S. combines will have an interactive seminar in addition to the off-ice testing. This year’s seminar topic is “Training, Overtraining and Recovery.”
Local 2013 S.T.A.R.S. combines are scheduled for:
» Rockville, MD - Sunday, June 16 Registration Deadline: May 16 - Register here
» Newark, Del. - Sunday, July 21 Registration Deadline: June 21 - Register here

Fundraising Campaign
SCNV is switching status to a non-profit charitable organization to permit tax-deductable fundraising for specific programs:  the SCNV Collegiate Scholarship Fund and the SCNV Competitors Fund.  Our fundraising goal is $5,000.00.  Help SCNV support our skaters.  Click here to make a pledge.
NEW: SCNV Collegiate Scholarship Fund
The SCNV Collegiate Scholarship program has been established to assist eligible SCNV members who are graduating high school seniors intending to pursue a college education during the upcoming academic year. The scholarship(s) are intended to honor skaters who have shown dedication to the sport of figure skating by testing and competing, set consistent standards of good citizenship and sportsmanship, and achieved academically. The SCNV Collegiate Scholarship program is also intended to promote long-term membership in SCNV and to encourage figure skating after high school. The scholarship(s) will be offered for full-time undergraduate study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. Click here for eligibility information and the application.
RELAUNCH: The SCNV Competitors Fund
The SCNV Competitors Fund has been re-established to assist eligible SCNV members to defray some or all of the costs for single, pair or ice dance skaters, synchronized skating teams and theatre on ice teams who by placing in a USFSA qualifying competition are subsequently eligible to enter the next-higher qualifying competition. Click here for eligibility information.
Skater Mentoring Program
ATTENTION SCNV Members: New this year, SCNV is organizing a mentoring program for our skaters.  Along the lines of the Big Sister/Big Brother program, we will be pairing younger skaters with more senior skaters.  Throughout the year, we will have special events for our skating “sisters” and “brothers”. Build the bonds of friendship and community by joining this program. Sign up on the SCNV bulletin board at Fairfax Ice Arena (around the corner from the lesson desk) or send an email to Melissa@scnv.org
